BUTTERNUT-APPLE CRISP BARS

 

 

3        cups peeled and sliced                 Preheat oven to 350 F.  In a large

Butternut Squash             mixing bowl, mix squash and apple

3        cups peeled and sliced tart          slices with ½ cup brown sugar, cloves,

Apples                                           cinnamon, and lemon juice, tossing

1        cup packed Brown Sugar gently.  Place in a well-greased shallow

1/8 teaspoon ground Cloves              baking pan and bake for 30 minutes.

1        teaspoon ground Cinnamon         Remove from oven.

2        teaspoons Lemon Juice

1 ¼ cups All-Purpose Flour               In a medium mixing bowl, combine

½   teaspoon salt                                remaining brown sugar, flour, salt,

6        tablespoons softened Butter       and butter or margarine until crumbly. Add

or Margarine                                nuts. Spread evenly over Squash/Apple mix.

1/3 cup chopped Nuts                         Bake for 40 minutes longer.  Cut into bars.

      Ice Cream (Optional)                   May be topped with ice cream.
